FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 5/7/02

BABCOCK SWINE HAS A NEW NAME TO REFLECT GENETIC HERITAGE, PROGRESS, AND FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS

ROCHESTER, MN: (MAY 7, 2002) Babcock Swine, Inc. has officially announced a name change to Babcock Genetics, Inc. as it launches a re-vamped web site geared to better serve present and future customers.

"Our new name more accurately reflects our dedication to genetic advances in the swine industry," said Jim McPeak, President. "With our focus on genetic solutions rather than the animals themselves, this new identity launches us into a new century of exciting progress and innovation."

Babcock is no stranger to pioneering solutions. The company created the Closed Herd™ System when it established a nucleus herd in 1970, populating it by hysterectomy. With no live animal introductions, they were the only company to faithfully practice the Closed Herd™ concept. By the early 1980's Babcock encouraged their customers to produce their own replacement gilts on-site and only bring in replacement boars. "Today," boasts McPeak, "all genetic improvement is brought to a closed commercial herd by one source - semen - and only from our closed nucleus system. The result is a disease-stable herd, without repopulating, as well as a minimal risk of new diseases entering the herd."

Implementing these genetic innovations is Babcock's Senior Geneticist, Dr. James Schneider, who echoes McPeak's enthusiasm for the name change. "A producer is facing several critical decisions if he plans to stay in the hog business." affirms Schneider. "We believe the most compelling reason for a producer to choose the Closed Herd™ System is consistent performance and cash flow, even in the face of disease. The reason they should choose Babcock Genetics' Closed System is that we're the only company that has maintained a true closed herd system."

Lastly, McPeak extends a welcome to anyone who wishes to visit either the Babcock Genetics offices in Rochester, Minnesota, or their Research and Conference Center located near La Crosse, Wisconsin.
