Babcock halothane gene free

International Pig Topics, pg. 35, Volume 13 Number 1 (1998)

Over the years American swine breeder Babcock Swine Inc has lead the way when it comes to the production of quality pork.

In the 1970s the company used a programme based on stress testing to improve pork quality and in 1980 Babcock implemented halothane testing to the stress gene that was then the known genetic cause of PSE pork.

In 1992 Babcock became the first (U.S. based) company licensed to use the HAL-1843 halothane gene test. They have certified their stock as halothane gene free since 1994.
